Our story

About Us

With roots in 1865, Ca' del Sette is a family business with more than 150 years of experience: five generations of winegrowers, now looking to the sixth, represented by Matteo Pontalto's children.

The roots of a name

«Ca'», the Venetian word for home, evokes the heart of family life: the place where, for generations, knowledge, values and experience have been kept and handed down.

The «Sette» comes instead from Matteo Pontalto's personal and entrepreneurial path. At just 16, due to his father's serious health problems, he took on important responsibilities in running the family business, forging a deep bond with the work and the land.

In the following years he acquired a sizeable plot in a place called Cadelsette, in the province of Verona. From that moment the number seven became a distinctive mark of the brand, a symbol that holds history, identity and continuity over time.

Passion, tradition and innovation

In the heart of the renowned D.O.C. and I.G.P. areas of Verona, Padua and Vicenza, since 1865 Ca' del Sette has nurtured its bond with the land: from tending the vineyards to processing the grapes, through to creating wines meant to meet enthusiasts in Italy and worldwide. Growth built step by step: in 2018 the winery reached 22,000 m², of which 2,030 covered, and in 2024 the journey grew with the first Ca' del Sette Wine Shop & Restaurant in Lazise, on Lake Garda. Led by Matteo Pontalto, the company guards tradition, innovates with passion and pursues excellence every day.

The vineyards

Our vineyards are the starting point of every wine: small plots of about 1,000 m² and large expanses up to 12 hectares, spread across Verona, Vicenza and Padua, from the slopes of the Lessini Mountains — tempered by the microclimate of Lake Garda — to the Euganean Hills. Every stage is tended by the family, with its own machinery to manage all the work, from planting to pruning and harvest; for some productions the grapes are left to dry directly on the vine, concentrating the fruit's aromas and character. Around 4,000 vines per hectare and rows over 40 years old tell of a viticultural heritage built over time.

Wax-sealed samples in the in-house laboratory

The laboratory

Behind every bottle is research made of experience, precision and daily care. The in-house laboratory accompanies every stage of the wine's journey, from the arrival of the grapes to fermentation, from racking to filtration, through to checks before and after bottling, ensuring constant, precise monitoring. This is where expertise and innovation meet: analyses, tests and experiments also guide the search for new blends. And since quality is born in the details, all materials — corks, bottles and labels — are carefully checked, including through certified laboratories.

The environment: a heritage to protect

For Ca' del Sette the land is the most precious heritage, to be guarded and handed down over time. Every choice is born of respect for the environment: advanced farming technology and latest-generation machinery allow the vineyards to be worked with precision, minimising the use of chemicals. In 2017 the phytodepuration plant received the «Oasis Ambiente per la Sostenibilità» award; since September 2022 both wineries are also powered by self-produced renewable energy from photovoltaic systems for self-consumption — a further step towards a responsible production model.

The terroir

The soil makes the difference

Every wine is born of a deep dialogue between vine and land: the nature of the soil, with its unique traits, shapes the plant's growth, its needs and the agronomic choices of each season. The estate's vineyards develop mainly on three soil types, each able to lend distinctive traits to the grapes and to the identity of Ca' del Sette wines.

The three soil types: silty, sandy and volcanic

Silty

Monteforte d'Alpone · Montecchia di Crosara · Gambellara · Padua

Born of alluvial sediments, rich in minerals, organic matter and calcium: it gives the wines finesse and freshness.

The Albaredo d'Adige vineyard

Sandy

San Bonifacio · Albaredo d'Adige

Fine grain, organic matter and volcanic residues; rich in potassium and magnesium, it favours lightness and aromatic elegance.

The Vestenanova vineyard, among the highest in the Veneto

Volcanic

Upper Val d'Alpone · Vestenanova, ~732 m a.s.l.

Dark soil, rich in basaltic tuff and columnar basalt, where the family farms one of the highest vineyards in the Veneto: freshness, stability and a marked mineral imprint.
